Research interests
Jess's research focuses on (1) the implications of advanced technologies in higher education, especially related to assessment policies, relationships and practices; (2) the governance/regulation of these technologies in education contexts; and (3) the issue around student cheating and academic integrity in the digital age.
*In relation to the above, a lot of my recent work has centred on understanding the emerging role of GenAI in higher education assessment. I’m interested in many evolving phenomena in this context, including how emerging technologies are regulated and governed through policies, ethical complexities of GenAI and assessment, the reconfiguration of assessment work for educators and students, the changing teacher-student relational dynamics during GenAI times, and how GenAI challenges entrenched assumptions in assessment such as what it means to produce original work. I welcome research collaborations and inquiries from prospective doctoral students to further explore these areas together:)
