Using a robot to foster children's creative thinking

The teaching of direction has long been a topic in kindergarten and primary curricula in Hong Kong. Teachers need to develop a repertoire of teaching strategies to help children grasp the concepts of moving forward and backward, turning left and right, and also standing in front of and behind of an object. The aims of this paper are to (i) introduce kindergarten teachers to the Logo robot that can be used to teach young children basic concepts of direction, (ii) provide teachers with ideas to develop children's creative thinking skills, and (iii) illustrate how interesting activities can be used to develop children's abilities in solving problems.
在香港的幼稚園和小學課程指引中,「方位」 一直以來都是一個重要的學習課題。在按照此課題施教時,教師需就其教學的進路,經仔細思量而發展出其個人的教學策略,籍此策略協助幼童掌握前後移動、左右轉向及物件前後的方位概念。本文旨在(i)向幼稚園老師介紹如何使用機械海龜(Logo Robot) 教導幼童方向的基本概念﹔(ii)為老師提供發展幼童創意思維的方法﹔及(iii)闡釋如何利用富趣味性的活動,發展兒童解決問題的能力。 Copyright © 2002 The Hong Kong Institute of Education.
