TVET as an increasingly important part of schooling in Asia

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapters

Abstract

This part introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters. The part focuses on technical vocational education and training (TVET). It discusses the challenges and approaches towards the development of a regional Qualifications Reference Framework (QRF) and other partnership agreements in the region. The part examines the challenges involved in bringing together countries to agree on values, mandates and structures for sub-regional modalities. It argues that the development of AQRF requires very strong commitments from different bodies and organizations in various countries, as well as an effective coordination of networks and partnerships to synergize the efforts. The part deals with a number of suggestions in support of the systematic approach that is required to promote an Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) qualification recognition scheme, as well as to support cross-border partnerships and to expand funding for the regionalization of TVET.
