Abstract

Basing on the psychological theory of RJ.Sternberg on Creativity, this paper attempts to develop a theoretical model for teachers' creativity. It would mainly focus on discussing 4 questions ?what is the conceptual definition of teachers' creativity; what are the factors affecting teachers' creativity; how teachers' creativity would affect teachers' professional development; and how teachers' creativity can be nurtured. Nowadays, teachers are facing many new challenges. Recent education commission report has highlighted that quality education is our future goal. Together with many recent educational innovations, such as TOC, SMI..., there are increasing demand on teachers' creativity. However, in HK and many other countries, teacher education only emphasizes on knowledge, technical skills and , to some extent, reflective thinking. The issue of teachers' creativity remains unexplored. The discussion in this paper may shed some light on the curriculum of future teacher education , and bring in a new direction for teacher development which is worth considering by every teacher, teacher educator and educational management personnel.
