Abstract
This chapter discusses how parents and families can influence and shape the development of gifted and advanced learners. As childhood became a part of human development rather than being considered an early part of adulthood, parents' relationship with schools began to change. Parental involvement is integral to school success for all children. For children with advanced cognitive needs, this can be mediated by parent's understanding of their child's learning needs, relationship with teachers and the school, parenting style, and ability to seek out supportive or alternative learning opportunities, which are covered in this chapter.
