Abstract

Along with the rapid developments in both hardware and software, multimedia technologies became standard feature of personal computers, and almost all recent information technology development is multimedia oriented. Being one of the crucial ingredients of multimedia, music is playing a substantial role in multimedia productions, including web based applications. Visual content would greatly be enhanced by the addition of appropriate music element, helping to stimulate and retain users interest. Nevertheless, for small scale development or non-commercial production, to hire a professional music composer seems unrealistic or practical. Although there are dozens of music archive web sites containing music files suitable for both multimedia production and web based development, the concern of copyright infringement may still hindered the inclusion of music to a certain extent. In this presentation, the way that computers can contribute to music-making will be illustrates. Participants will be showed how to create custom-tailored royalty-free music with inexpensive and readily available computer-assisted music generation software.
