Abstract

This study aims at promoting the integration of computer-mediated learning resources in the learning and teaching of subject knowledge for fostering the ability of learners to inquire, which is an essential quality of life-long learners. It discusses how computer-mediated learning resources can be designed and implemented to support the inquiry approach for building knowledge of family trees in primary school education. The computer-mediated learning resources include an audio-visual database of the nomenclature of a typical Chinese family tree for initial understanding, an interactive interface for building nomenclature knowledge, and an environment for constructing the family tree of the learner. The role of the teacher is to encourage learners to use the learning resources to generate knowledge of their family trees.
