Abstract

The Hong Kong Institute of Education has started to offer a four-year full-time honours degree programme in Primary Education for secondary seven graduates. The degree programme is the first of a series of degrees to be offered by the institute at its new purpose-built campus in Tai Po. Specializing in civic education and the use of information technology, each degree student is required to take one major and two minors. The module Science and Technology (S&T) is among the topics in the General Studies minor. Through the module, students would understand the relationship between science and technology and their impact on our lives. Self-study is the main kind of education for tertiary students. Information technology is a way to help them through the selfstudy process. This paper suggests a few Websites especially the home page ESTEEM, to help students in the learning of S&T. ESTEEM is a new educational initiative in the USA with a USD25 million-budget, the US Department of Energy (DOE) plans to develop Internet-based education technology for elementary through college students. It includes topics that are directly related to modules. It is hoped that through introducing the Websites, the use of Information Technology is promoted and self-study is encouraged.
