This proposal works with the design and implementation of online digital video database in the method studies modules of General Studies and Liberal Studies. First, the project team will work on the technological development and advancement of the video database for uploading videos for the purpose of sharing teaching practices. Second, General Studies student teachers of the part-time PGDE (Pri) (in 07-08 semester 2) and full-time PGDE (Pri) will be invited to share the videos of their micro-teaching/trial-teaching at the video database and post their comments on the on-line learning platform. Full-time Liberal Studies student teachers of the PGDE (Sec) (in 08-09 semester 1) will be involved as a pilot study for the subject Liberal Studies. The learning outcome expected from the student teachers will be collaborative discussion by attaching annotations to segments of videos. The collaborative discussion will engage student teachers in reflective analysis of authentic classroom teaching episodes so that they will have a deeper understanding of how the theories are translated to actual practice. Quantitative and qualitative data will be collected for evaluation of the project. The analysis of questionnaire and interview will collect views from student teachers about the creation of the collaborative learning community to support their learning about teaching. The content analysis of the annotated comments with the corresponding video segments will be useful for better understanding of the quality of learning of student teachers within the collaborative learning community.
