Abstract

Outcomes based learning (OBL is a strategic imitative for the Institute. It is linked to the planning for 334 where UGC has required that all higher education Institutions develop their new curriculum in line with the principles of OBL. The Institute has made considerable progress on this matter with seminars, workshops, consultants etc. The key issue facing all Departments now, however, is how to implement OBL at the module level. Given that OBL is not due for full implementation until 2012/13, the coming year provides an opportunity for trailing at the level of the classroom. The WG on OBL at the Institute level has endorsed this approach and the purpose of this proposal is provide opportunities for departments to take up OBL at the planning level and trail it in specific modules in the coming year. The proposed project has two parts: 1. The incorporation of OBL into selected modules in all Departments in FES and trailing in Semester 1. 2. The sharing of results and dissemination of good practice in Semester 2. The adoption of both a qualitative and quantitative approach to student assessment will provide both efficiency and quality in student assessment and enable the Institute to meet its obligation both to students and to the community.
