This proposed TDG Project aims to develop an "E-progress mapping" instrument which enables the monitoring of individual student's progress in achieving the subject learning outcomes throughout their studies in Music and Visual Arts. Building on the practice of electronic portfolios, it also facilitates the benchmarking of student learning against the subject intended learning outcomes and professional requirements in the two subject areas. The progress map will be constructed with reference to the programme and course intended outcomes, the sequence of the courses offered and studied, assessment tasks required in the courses as well as evidence of student learning to be collected. This provides a reflective mechanism for evaluation and quality enhancement purposes for both the lecturers and students in the Department. It also provides students with a self-monitoring instrument for progress tracking, progress checking and achievement setting towards their professional goals. Due to the limitations of funding and duration, a pilot project will be implemented in 2011-2012 with two selected sample groups comprising Year 1 and Year 4 Music and Visual Arts students. The pilot project will be evaluated with feedback from staff, students and external reviewers.
