Abstract

This project is aimed at developing a package of teaching materials and training test papers of Putonghua for HKEAA's new LPATP to enhance CLE's existing LPATP. The target students are IEd's full-time Year 3 BEd students majoring in Chinese and Putonghua, and PGDE students. The Institute has always put strong emphasis on the development of students' language proficiency. There is a series of Putonghua enhancement programmes for students majoring in Chinese and Putonghua to meet their future teaching needs and an exit Putonghua test in Year 3 . Through this series of learning and training, it is expected that the students can pass the LPATP before graduation. The final module of the Putonghua enhancement programmes "Overall Putonghua Proficiency Traning" is targetted at strengthening students' skills for the HKEAA's new LPATP to strengthen CLE's exist test. Recently, HKEAA has greatly revised the LPATP in terms of rater standard and format. The new format will be implemented in early February 2008. As such, the existing teaching materials and evaluation format and test papers will become obsolete. It is therefore necessary to develop and revise CLE's current teaching materials and test papers following the revisions of LPATP. This project is to develop new materials and test packages, and the guidelines of developing test papers with a view to making our programmes and exit tests more effective, in order to enhance the Putonghua proficiency of our students as well as assisting their scores in the new LPATP.
