Abstract

Dr. Pan’s research interest explores the interdisciplinary fields of higher education, international relations and China studies. The coming presentation draws findings from a research project sought to understand non-local students’ experiences in three aspects: determinations to study in Hong Kong, engagement within the university and local community, and future planning after graduation. Findings show how students’ experience may differ by their origins. Dr. Pan and Miss Li argue that such
differences reflect on the encounter of different ‘habitus’ socially constructed in different ‘fields’, which might have informed or misinformed students’ understanding of home and abroad. Copyright © 2021 The Education University of Hong Kong.
