Abstract
Technology Education is emerging as important focus for learning within the Hong Kong school curriculum just recently. However, Design and Technology teachers generally felt that they lack the competence and confidence for teaching new curriculum areas such as Computer-Aided Design and Manufacture (CAD/CAM) and that quality teaching resources and technical supports in this area is scarce. This article will discuss the design, development and implementation of a project which aims to help revolutionize the study of Design and Technology in Hong Kong schools by the establishment of a territory-wide Educational CAD/CAM Network using Internet technology. To accomplish this end, a project website has been constructed and maintained to facilitate teaching and learning CAD/CAM, including an on-line Resource/Data Bank for teachers and students to upload and retrieve instructional and reference materials and design data. Besides, a network has been developed to provide the means for schools to link up laboratory facilities and curriculum and technical experts in tertiary institutions via Internet technology.
