Abstract

This session is a brief presentation of an "FE Semester" pilot project, designed to assist a reconsideration of the objectives of Block Practice. During the project, primary and secondary stream B.Ed. students participated in a 14-week Block Practice. The pilot focused on several critical aspects of field-based learning and professional development, including the effect of the length of BP on student-teachers' planning and teaching; the benefits of access to a variety of forms of support, including peer, school-based and supervisory support; and how the student-teachers' experience of the school culture contributed to their development of professional identity as teachers.
