Abstract

This paper reports a study that examined the relationship between principals’ emotional intelligence, and their leadership behaviours, teacher emotional labour, and commitment using a sample of 400 primary school teachers and 100 principals in Iran. The findings revealed that principals’ emotional intelligence is positively influenced by teachers’ commitment, mediated by principals’ leadership behaviours and teachers’ emotional labour. Generally, this study makes a distinct contribution not only to school leadership and educational psychology research in Iran but also to the growing body of research on their effects in non-Western, developing societies.
