Abstract
In this paper we describe and compare the Archimedes approach and the Zu Xuan approach in computing the volume of sphere in the East and West. We discuss how to motivate a group of teacher trainees to relate these two approaches to the evolution of calculus ideas. Copyright © 2002 Department of Mathematics Education, Hiroshima University.
