Abstract
This chapter presents a theoretical framework that aims to elucidate how mindfulness training can serve as an effective approach to mental health promotion and prevention, benefiting young people across the mental health spectrum. In addition, this chapter reviews previous studies on mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) for young people and discusses the inconsistent findings about the intervention effects. Finally, this chapter provides several directions for future research, including conducting more rigorous randomized controlled trials of MBIs with adequate sample sizes, active control groups, and long follow-up periods, as well as developing more age-appropriate MBIs that are manualized and delivered by trained mindfulness teachers.
