Abstract
This project aims to adopt information and communication technology as a convenient and efficient environment to foster learner-centered learning. Colleagues from six disciplines across three faculties will be involved in this project. The online activities will be anchored with different subject disciplines and context to complement face-to-face learning. There will be no prescribed activities but learners will form online communities of practices to construct knowledge together. It is expected that newer technology, also known as Web 2.0, such as including weblogs, wikis, podcasts and social networking sites will be used mainly due to their user-friendliness and free usage. Furthermore, the Web 2.0 environments not only support interactions, but also provide statistical and tracking functions to inform educators on the interactivities of users. The project members will also form a community of practice to discuss face-to-face and online and to learn from each other about the innovative practices. Therefore, the project prepares student teachers to learn in the 21st century which can be transferrable in school contexts and also provides teacher educators an invaluable opportunity to examine and support their own practices based on their shared understanding of teaching and learning.
