Abstract

Active Classroom (AClass): http://www.ied.edu.hk/aclass/ is an electronic platform for studying pedagogical practices to promote active learning. Offering a range of topics on curriculum, teaching and assessment, AClass presents periodical study tasks in a well-defined module structure, in a constructivist design that is contextualized and task-embedded, and central to site-based experience. The specific feature that makes AClass become a community of practice on innovative pedagogies is that all the materials over AClass are collaborative evidence-based study outputs of teachers, student-teachers, and academics. Since 2006, AClass has been widely used as a key resource in UGC funded programmes, government commissioned teacher development programmes and school professional development day. AClass has the potential of becoming a key platform for promoting teaching at various levels in the local community. Copyright © 2010 The Hong Kong Institute of Education.
