Abstract

This chapter looks at the components of an extensive reading programme which includes almost 150 secondary schools. Among these vital components are the installation of the programme as a significant element of the school-wide curriculum, the purchase of a very large quantity of books so that each student has choices of books on various topics at their independent reading level, easy and quick follow-up activities, and teachers who monitor students’ progress and read along with them.
