Developing criteria for textbook evaluation

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlespeer-review

Abstract

The article offers tips for teachers on how to develop criteria for evaluating textbooks. It is stated that textbook selection and evaluation plays a very important role in most language courses, but it is often given little attention. Sometimes, busy teachers and program coordinators indulge in a cursory examination of books. It is stated that developing an evaluation checklist can help teachers to objectively examine, evaluate, and select new textbooks. Several tables are presented in the article, in which there are questions for rating the textbooks. The questions are related to the use of vocabulary in textbooks, appropriateness of grammar items, and the quality of listening materials. Copyright © 2009 TESL Reporter.
