Abstract
The processes of globalisation with their positive and negative influences on almost every aspect of modern life have not ignored education. One aspect of these processes is visible through the formulation of international educational agendas by such organisations as United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP), United Nations (e.g. Millennium development goals) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) that are shaping significant shifts in the educational debate about the purpose and nature of education.
