Abstract

Online teaching and learning, with the development of information technology, becomes more and more prevalent in many colleges and universities. However, there are still a lot of difficulties for students to get used to online teaching and learning, such as developing self-learning/independent learning abilities. Besides, although IT facilitates communications between students and instructor, empirical evidence in the influence of IT on promoting students self/independent learning and their generic skills remains scarce. This study was to design a self-learning, Blackboard-based activity package and two samples of implementation of this package to promote students self-learning ability and critical thinking skills.
