Abstract

There have been rapid changes in the economic, social, and technological situations of Hong Kong in the last two decades. Corresponding to the contextual development, the Primary Mathematics curriculum has undergone several changes as well. This chapter aims to depict the major changes by comparing the three official curricula for primary mathematics set in 1973, 1983 and 1995, respectively, and the drafted version of primary mathematics curriculum for 2001 onwards. In addition, the implications for in-service mathematics teacher development programs due to the new elements of the coming curriculum are discussed.
