Abstract

I investigate the influences of contexts and cognitive foundations on math learning. First, I examine how perceptual and embodied features of the environment influence students’ math thinking, and how educators can leverage these features during instruction. Second, I study how various cognitive skills support math skills development. My long-term goal is to advance the understanding of various pathways to math skills development by identifying mechanisms of, and malleable factors in, learning across students and contexts.
