Arts administrators in Hong Kong: Demand and cultivation

Abstract

As the Proposed Development Plan of West Kowloon Cultural District unveils, and the phased completion of arts and cultural facilities starting from 2015, it is anticipated there will be an unprecedented demand for arts managers and administrators. Concerns have been raised about the training of arts administrators – do the current courses in Hong Kong meet the demands required for the fast developing arts and culture field? And how can the arts administration courses structured to meet the upcoming head-on? Scholar Prof Tseng Sun-man in this article will discuss on the existing training opportunities available for current and perspective arts administrators, and suggesting the way forward in nurturing these off-the-scenes talents.
