Abstract

Warren has recently applied the angular overlap model in the calculation of Jahn-Teller energies. Inconsistencies in this approach can be removed by the use of the more general superposition model. Nevertheless, in cases where insufficient data exist to determine all the superposition model parameters, the angular overlap model provides a better approximation than the point-charge model.
