Abstract

The EPR spectra of S-state ions doped at some low-symmetry sites are parametrized in an alternative form using the concepts of splitting moments and rotational invariants. In particular, the quardratic moment with magnetic field H is obtained as: (σ2)2 (H)=(s1)2 S(S+1) + (σ2)2 (O) ,where (s1)2 = (1/3)(β)2(g)2(H)2 is the rank one rotational for Zeeman interaction, taking account of the fact that g is very isotropic in the ground state of an S-state ion. The second term of the above equation represents the quadratic moment for the fine structure splittings. This quadratic moment (σ2)2 (H) can be used to determine the g-value directly without the involvement of other spin parameters. Copyright © 1998 Springer Science + Business Media, LLC.
