Abstract

What is education? Can we learn from ‘alternative schools’ elsewhere so that we can help revitalize our educational practices in Hong Kong? Can we imagine a more humanistic education through a study tour in Taiwan where the alternative schools are famous? As initiated by two enthusiastic Year 3 BEd students, Mr. LI Chin Wa of IELL applied funding from IRLEF to organize a study tour ‘Alternative Schooling in Taiwan’ in Easter. Selected from 100 applicants ranged from Year 1 to master programme students, 16 students were shortlisted to form the tour team with two teachers as advisors. The team successfully went to four alternative schools in Taipei and Tai Chung from 17 April to 22 April 2014. We shall report our Tour in this Session.
