Abstract
This is an action research in line with an individualised educational plan (IEP). The research demonstrated how information and communication technologies (ICT) motivated students with mental retardation in learning Chinese Language in a mainstream school. A tailor‐made software package (TMSP) has been designed aiming at improving the existing learning situations and enhancing the current teaching practice. Some experiments have been carried out across the academic year. Some factors were primarily identified as the learning arousal and further incorporated into the TMSP. This research also discussed the possible change of teacher's role and perception in teaching Chinese Language with SEN students.
