A final "look": Teaching development for the future

As a conclusion of this book we share with the readers the challenges we are facing in teaching within the recent development of higher education in Hong Kong, on several emerging themes such as the diverse background of students, necessary changes on course provision, curriculum design and teaching methods, new requirement on management and strategic planning, and the demand from a structured and systematic quality assurance regime, with a discussion on the corresponding demands made on faculties. In our experience of implementing a new idea supported by a quality enhancement grant on the mass lecture plus tutorial delivery mode, we realized a perceived gap between innovative teaching ideas and the condition to accommodate the new methods for the benefit of student learning, this appears to be the major concern due to the increasing demands of quality assurance in the current higher education environment.
