Abstract
A Computer-based Graph-sketching Environment (CGE) for teaching and learning of quadratic graphs in secondary mathematics was developed. The objectives of the system are to provide an environment with embedded Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) for teachers to design lesson plans, and for students to learn mathematics by guided instructions and exploration. CGE was developed using the rapid prototyping approach. It was constructed in Visual BASIC with integration to Maple™ to take its mathematical strength. CGE contains examples and guided exercises. Guided drilling practices may help students to grasp the completing square method for finding the optimal points of the quadratics. Teachers can utilize the computer-based environment to design their own examples and plan their lessons. Students can explore graphs at their own choices. Copyright © 1998 香港中文大學教育學院, 香港中文大學香港教育研究所.
