Abstract

We proposed a collaborative fraction learning environment, which aimed at providing an environment for learners to comprehend the procedural knowledge of fraction addition with unlike denominators via interacting with a cognitive tool. The Collaborative Fraction Learning Tool (CFL) is a cognitive tool for supporting the collaborative learning task on mobile platform. The key for mediating the generation of procedural knowledge for adding fractions with unlike denominators in working with our cognitive tool was the process of striving for a common denominator in working with the graphical partitioning model. This paper describes how this learning environment can facilitate fraction learning collaboratively. In particular, we will illustrate the supportive functions of CFL that can facilitate the synchronous interactions. Copyright © 2005 Global Chinese Society FOR Computers in Education (GCSCE).
