Abstract

This paper critically analysed the eIement of "shadow" in the four children's books written by Huang Chun-Ming in 1993, I Am a Cat, The Short Nose Elephant, Little Hunchback, The King Who Likes to Eat Candies, and The Little Sparrow and the Scarecrow. According to C. G. lung, "shadow" exists in our ego, a part that we tend to reject, but if we get to understand and accept our shadow, it gives us force and energy. The paper also examined the relationship between Huang Chun-Ming's fiction and children's books, and how his complexes influenced his writing. It appears that the writer resolved to tranquility working on his children's books, a state of being that is seldom found in the adult literacy world.
