Abstract
This article looks into the real intention of Sima Guang to write Zizhi Tongjian and the later annotations on the work. It analyses the methods used by later writers in annotating Zizhi Tongjian, compares them with the theories in Hans - Georg Gadamer s Wahrheit und Methods: Grudzuge einer Philosophic chen Hermeneutik, and reveals the practice of hermeneutics in Chinese historical studies.
