英國中六年級通識教育科的設計與啟示

Abstract

二戰後,英國一些學校開始開設通識教育科 (General Studies),20世紀90年代以來,通識教育科已成為英國中六年級 (Sixth Form) 學生參加高級程度會考時熱選的科目之一。英國的通識教育科的性質與科目設計具有兩方面特徵:其一,在科目設計上,以思考能力為核心,注重學生從多角度認識問題,並理解基本知識範疇之間的關係;其二,科目設計主要與「資格與課程管理局」、「考試中心」相關,前者設計基本的科目標準,後者發展出較為具體的科目細則及考試方案。
General Studies originated in the UK after the Second World War, and since the 1990s, it has been one of the popular courses selected by Sixth Form students. Two characteristics of General Studies in the UK can be identified as that, firstly, the course design focuses on nurturing students' thinking ability, as well as involving students into viewing issues from a wider range of perspectives, and integrating knowledge from a range of disciplines; secondly, duty distribution between two levels is clear that Qualifications and Curriculum Authority mainly works on the subject criteria, and three awarding bodies concentrate on developing more detailed subject specifications and textbooks, and organizing examinations.
