美國《諾頓世界文學作品選》及其世界文學觀的發展

《諾頓世界文學作品選》(The Norton Anthology of World Literature)系列從1956年出版至今，已被數百萬的教師、學生和普通讀者閱讀使用，獲得了較高的聲譽，在現有諸多世界文學選集中占據權威地位。本文以2012年最新版《諾頓世界文學作品選》為主要研究對象，結合若干以往版本，對其選用、譯介、編排、解釋世界文學作品的行為進行研究，以呈現其世界文學觀念的發展變化。這種變化主要表現為：世界文學是多元起源，其發展不是匯聚在一起的河流，而是多條線索的交織；世界文學的範圍從西方拓展到全世界，從“名著”擴大到“代表性作品”，從純文學作品延伸到思想文獻、民間文學和大眾作品。《諾頓世界文學作品選》按“主題”劃分教學模塊，每個主題模塊統領若干文本，增強了作品的關聯性，而大量輔助性資源也為教學提供了極大的便利。
Since its first publication in 1956, the Norton Anthology of World Literature has been read and used by millions of teachers and students, and remains one of the most-trusted anthologies of world literature. This paper studies the editions of the Norton Anthology of World Literature, and the most updated version published in 2012 in particular, to learn the selection, translation, edition and explanation of world literature to show the evolution of views of world literature in this anthology. Characteristics of the evolution include: (1) world literature has multiple origins and is more like a converge of rivulets rather than a river; and (2) the scope of world literature has extended from the Western to the globe, from masterpieces to representative works, and from merely selecting pure literature works to including philosophical works, folk literature and even popular works. In order to improve the connection of works, the newest Norton Anthology of World Literature is divided into instructional models according to themes, each of which has several works.
