Abstract
In order to understand the current status of school health education and to improve health education in the nation, a survey was conducted in April 1999. The school district coordinators, principals, and health education teachers of middle and high schools from 18 provinces and regions participated in the survey. Researchers developed a self-report questionnaire regarding health education curriculum and teaching that was used for data collection. Data were analyzed descriptively. This paper presents the major findings of the study, including health education contents, curricula, professional preparation, perceptions upon health education, and the differences between developed and under-developed regions. The future development of health education in the nation is also discussed as well as suggested strategies for improving current health education practices.
