Abstract
1862年英國人在香港成立的中央書院 (Central School),不但對香港教育發展有重大的影響,對中國的人才培養也起了相當大的作用。中央書院能夠培養出這麼多推動中國現代化的人才,與其獨特的學制有很大的關系。論者多以為中央書院的學制是依據當時英國的文法學校 (Grammar School) 制定,這一論斷並不成立。其實中央書院在中國和香港本地的特殊文化因素的影響下,自有一套獨特的學制。
The Central School, which was founded in Hong Kong by the British in 1862, not only constituted great impact on the education development of Hong Kong; it also cultivated a significant amount of Chinese talent. The influence of the Central School upon the modernization of China was closely related to its unique school system. It has been believed that the system of the school Central School was based on that of the grammar schools in Britain, but it is not true.
