Abstract

This paper aims to illustrate the fact that creativity is not limited to a few gifted people. Under certain suitable conditions, everybody will have room to develop his or her own creativity. This paper reports a project that explored the conditions to nourish children’s creativity through an activity called “Who am I”. The project found that creativity could be nourished through:
►Activities that are open-ended and closely related to young children
►An abundance of materials and resources
►Ample time
►Enough space
►Adequate Human Resources-principals who are enthusiastic in providing support and teachers who are good at giving guidance
The paper suggests that it is easier for young children to show their forthright and creative thinking and feelings when they are provided with conditions that nourish their creativity. Copyright © 2002 The Hong Kong Institute of Education.
