Project Details
Description
This is a scale up project building on the proven successful stages of which the first one was launched in 2015. Significant improvements in non-Chinse-speaking (NCS) kindergarteners’ Chinese proficiency were found laying a solid foundation for the consecutive stages. To further address the achievement gap between NCS and CS students, the project in this stage pledges to support the teaching of Chinese enrichment classes to at least 500 NCS students coming from 70 kindergartens. This project will consolidate the innovation of the Dynamic Enrichment Learning Mode (DELM) in assisting learning Chinese as a second language. Teaching materials including customized storybooks and nursery rhymes will be rewritten or enhanced for publication. To mitigate the training gap of teachers in this specialized field, a mentorship scheme is adopted to promote co-planning, co-teaching and support the administration of a user-friendly assessment kit for programme sustainability. At the final year of the project, a production of the original storybooks and nursery rhymes based on the DELM and its teaching guide will be developed. An online learning and teaching community will also be created and launched. Other project activities include parental support to kindergarten-primary transition and a project outcome sharing seminar.
