Project Details
Description
Schools would be networked according to their common interests. Teachers are required to work on different study areas in reading and writing. The knowledge and skills in these areas of concern will be shared among schools in regular meetings as well as in cross-site visitations
The proposed project will continue to provide teachers with a platform to:
Create space for teachers to develop and broaden curriculum activities;
Develop collaborative working practices and overcoming the isolation many teachers feel;
Provide a forum in which teachers can discuss and share ideas on teaching and learning and develop new teaching learning strategies;
Provide a space in which teachers can mutually support each other.
Share what they are doing in their classrooms;
Learn new skills and looking at how these can be integrated into the classroom;
Examine professional readings and looking at how these fit with the new strategies;
Reflect on their experiences and thinking; and
Visit other classrooms where good teaching and learning is being modeled.
In addition to the use of the current mode of implementation, the new proposal will focus on developing a web-based learning system for students with diverse needs. Technology plays an important role in promoting literacy development for all students (Cummins, Brown, & Sayers, 2007). This proposal aims at integrating technology tools into a reading and writing intervention programme that focuses on using the differentiated instruction to assist students with diverse needs to familiarize with the major components in expository writing. Strategies such as highlighting the major components of the writing, summarizing the text, identifying the text structure, selecting appropriate descriptive words, making connections, etc. would be emphasized in the intervention.
