    Description

    This project aims to investigate into the history of missionaries and their religious and pedagogical publications rendered in Cantonese during the Late-Qing and Early-Republican Era. It will particularly focus on how Cantonese was learned by Western missionaries and why they wanted to produce Bible-related materials in colloquial Cantonese.
