Dr. Hu Zhiyong, Fox is Associate Professor at Department of Social Sciences and Policy Studies, the Education University of Hong Kong. Prior to his current appointment, he was Post-doctoral Fellow at Department of Geography, The University of Hong Kong (2009-2012) and Assistant Professor at the Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (2002-2006). His research and teaching interests focus on the spatial restructuring of China’s SOEs, the political economy of China’s ownership reform and industrial transformation, urban and regional development, urban land redevelopment and the social consequences of urban economic growth and housing development.

He has published widely in the areas of economic geography and urban and regional development. His articles appear in leading international journals such as Regional StudiesUrban StudiesEnvironment and Planning AEnvironment and Planning C, GeoforumApplied Geography;  Landscape and Urban Planning, Cities, Habitat International, Public Administration and Development as well as Chinese journals and book chapters.

Dr. Hu has received Outstanding Ph.D. Dissertation Award from the University of Hong Kong (2007), Student paper competition award from China Geography Specialty Group of the Association of American Geographers (2004) and Small Grant Research Award from Urban China Research Network (2004). He is the recipient of various grants from Hong Kong Research Grant Council, National Science Foundation of China, Peking University-Lincoln Institute Center for Urban Development and Land Policy.
