Personal profile

Carlos is an English lecturer at the Centre for Language in Education. He holds an MPhil in Education (Distinction) (Research in Second Language Education) from The University of Cambridge. Prior to joining EdUHK, he gained extensive teaching experience in primary and secondary schools across various bandings in Hong Kong. He is skilled at using AI-based teaching and learning tools to provide learners with formative feedback, fostering their continuous improvement in language acquisition. He is also proficient in applying gamification and task-based learning approaches to enhance students’ motivation in learning English. His steadfast commitment to education is evidenced by his contributions across Cambodia, China, Ireland, North Macedonia, and the United Kingdom, where he has served as a curriculum designer, advisor to various schools, and adjudicator in English choral speaking competitions.


In addition to teaching, Carlos has a strong research interest in areas such as Content and Language Integrated Learning, feedback literacy, and Global Englishes Language Teaching. His master’s thesis, which explored Hong Kong teachers’ beliefs about implementing Global Englishes Language Teaching innovations, was awarded a distinction. Carlos has also received several prestigious scholarships and awards, including the Hong Kong Top Ten Outstanding Tertiary Students Award, the Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarship, the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Scholarship, the For Our Future Scholarship, the HKSAR Outstanding Youth Commendation Scheme’s Remarkable Youth Award, and the Tai Po District Outstanding Youth Award, among others.
