Lewis Cheung has joined the Department of Social Sciences, HKIEd (now EdUHK) as an Assistant Professor in 2014. Before joining the department, Lewis was a Lecturer in the Department of Geography of the University of Hong Kong. Lewis received his Master of Geographical Information Systems and Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Hong Kong in 2004 and 2010 respectively. His research interests focus on sustainable tourism with particular emphasis on nature-based tourism in protected areas, environmental education, and environmental conservation. His research papers have been published in the international peer-reviewed journals such as Environmental Education Research, Natural Hazards, Geoheritage, Professional Geographer, Annals of the American Association of Geographers, Science of the Total Environment, Asia Pacific Journal of Tourism Research, and Journal of Sustainable Tourism.

Lewis has participated the post-earthquake ecotourism development of the Wolong National Nature Reserve, Sichuan and developed an Ecotourism Accreditation and Certification System (EACS) for the tourism development of the reserve. He has bcurrently been appointed as the Expert Advisor for Assessment Panel of Ecotourism Accredition and Certification System of the Nature Reserve. Lewis has been invited by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) and Ecotourism Australia (EA) as the Sustainable Tourism Trainer and the Chairman of the Assessment Committee for Ecoguide Certification of the greater China region respectively.
