Dr. Mabel Shek is currently a Senior Lecturer II in the Department of Special Education and Counselling, and Programme Coordinator of the Bachelor of Education (Special Needs) at the Education University of Hong Kong. She received her Doctor of Education from the University of Bristol. She also holds a Master’s degree in Education and a Master of Social Science degree in Counselling. Her research focus is in professional identity of school counsellors and counselling and culture.
Mabel was awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award by the Faculty of Education Studies and the President’s Award for Outstanding Performance in Teaching by the HKIEd in 2011 and 2012 respectively. She previously worked at a boy’s home, secondary schools, and with the Education Bureau’s Guidance Section, and has many years’ experience in teaching, training and counselling. She provides parent education at schools, and organizes workshops to enhance teachers’ personal and professional development. Her teaching areas include school counselling, career counselling and sex education.
