Chinese Name: 關陳立穎

Dr. Lorinda Kwan-Chen specializes in assessment and intervention of speech and language disorders associated with neuro-pathologies. She completed her PhD on speech disorders in Parkinson's disease at the University of Hong Kong. Her major research work has been on people diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, Stroke or Dementia. 

Dr. Kwan-Chen has been a lecturer and clinical educator in different universities, instituting and teaching undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of speech-language pathology. She has trained more than 600 speech therapists in Hong Kong.  She also consults numerous organizations that deliver services for people with speech, language, communication and swallowing disorders. Through collaborations with these organizations, Dr. Kwan has initiated regular, community-based speech therapy services for people with aphasia, and has started the first regular tele-health speech therapy service for people with Parkinson's disease in Hong Kong.

1) Speech, Language and Communication Disorders Associated with Parkinson's Disease or Stroke, or Fronto-temporal Dementias.

Motor Speech disorders ( Dysarthria and Apraxia of Speech) in tonal language ( Cantonese and Mandarin, Putonghua) speakers

Aphasia - agrammtism in Cantonese speakers with Aphasia, communication support to parents with Aphasia

Primary Progressive Aphasia - Clinical assessment and intervention for Cantonese or Mandarin speakers with Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA)

Prosody - clinical application of prosody to assessment and intervention of speakers with dysarthria

2) Service Delivery Model of Speech therapy 

Hybrid model of telehealth speech therapy

Community-based rehabilitation service for brain injured people

3) Clinical Education of Speech-Language Therapists/Pathologist

Padegogy for pre-qualification training of speech therapists at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and of multi-cultural, multi-linguistic backgrounds

E-learning strategies for pre-qualification training of speech therapists.
