Dr Poon’s primary research focuses on interpersonal relationships and processes, with an emphasis on the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral impacts of ostracism, objectification, and related forms of interpersonal maltreatments. Specifically, he examines when and why ostracism and objectification lead to undesirable outcomes (e.g., psychosocial maladjustments and antisocial behavior) and examines how to help people better cope with these interpersonal setbacks. In acknowledgement of his research accomplishments, the research awards he received include the Association for Psychological Science’s Rising Star Designation and the Education University of Hong Kong’s President’s Award for Outstanding Performance in Research (Early Career Research Excellence Award).
